Driving Tests and bad weather The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) doesn’t conduct practical driving tests in adverse weather conditions, for example when the roads are icy or snow covered. This is for the safety of both the candidate taking the test and the examiner. If you have a candidate due to take their practical test, please ask them to follow the advice given on their appointment email or letter. Only call your test centre if there is snow or ice in your local area on the day of your test. The direct dial telephone number of Carlisle MPTC is 01228 558846, and there generally be an Examiner present in the office from 07:15am If there is bad weather at the Candidate’s home, and they cannot safely travel in for the test, again they should call the Test Centre and let us know and their appointment will be re-arranged If your Candidate’s practical driving test is cancelled because of adverse weather, another appointment will be arranged automatically at no further cost. However, compensation is not payable in this instance. A new appointment date is usually sent within three working days. This may take longer when there's a period of prolonged bad weather. Alternatively, please advise your Candidate’s to check the status of their test on-line at direct.gov.uk/drivingtest.
